Every Step Brings Us Closer to a Cure

Pease Support My Journey

Firstly, a huge Thank You to all my friends for helping me out in 2011 in our fight against Cancer.  I'll be  contacting you all again soon for donations for 2012! lol

Since 2004 my wonderful donors have helped me raise over $25000.00 and we all recognise how important it is for us to keep the research dollars coming in, don't we?

I've been asked why I fundraise for the hospital in Toronto when my cancer treatments were done at the marvellous Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, my home town.  My answer is that the millions of dollars raised since the first walk in 2003 will enable the scientists to find a cure for cancer eventually and that information will be spread worldwide, not just nation or country-wide.

My family has a history of cancer and so I wanted to raise as much money as possible to honour those family members who have died, tragically too young, from this horrible disease.  So, in 2008 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer it didn't really come as a shock, to be honest.

Thank God it was caught at a very early stage - but only through a routine mammogram. The "average" woman starts having mammograms at age 50.  I was 42 when diagnosed and if this tumour had been left to grow for 8 more years I am certain that my outcome would not be a pleasant one at all. Not everyone has a family history like I do but remember, EARLY DETECTION IS THE KEY TO SURVIVAL.

There are so many women in my biological family and my "chosen as famiy" that it scares me to think of any of them having to worry about this in their lifetime, so I feel compelled to help in my lifetime. I am so grateful to the scientists worldwide, now that I've had to use so many of their resources with going through chemo and radiation treatments, that I want to try extra hard, with your help, to find a cure.

Thanks a million for donating to The Weekend Walk, we all know we are making a difference. More people are living with cancer these days, not dying from it. Years ago cancer was a sentence, not just a word. Thank God that's not the case any more - just ask a survivor.... :O)

Thanks also for all your love and support,

Godbless, Nuala
