Crossing the Finish Line - 2009
|
A very special request for your support ...
As you may already know, The Weekend to End Breast Cancer is a two-day, 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto. Proceeds benefit Princess Margaret Hospital, funding important women's cancer research, education, services and care.
Why am I Walking?
In July, 2010, my Aunt Joan was diagnosed with cancer and less than a week later she passed away at the age of 67. Despite considerable and inexcusable delays in her diagnosis and treatment, she maintained an amazing sense of humour and an inner strength that will inspire everyone who was lucky enough to know her. I truly wish there was a better outcome for her. This year I walk in her honour.
In October of 2007, my Aunt Kay whom I will always describe as "effervescent" succumbed to cancer after a brave battle that spanned many, many years. Not once did I hear her complain. She was so proud that I participated in the walk and each year I do, I will walk in her memory.
I also walk for my Mom who has seen first hand what this dreadful disease can do - her loss is indescribable. And of course, for my friends and teammates who have been impacted by cancer, either directly or indirectly.
Together, we can make a difference! Treatment options have progressed substantially in my lifetime. Now, let's promote early diagnosis and find a cure!
Every dollar counts, and I am grateful for whatever support you can provide.
Sincerely,
Kelly Gleeson
