CREATING HOPE...ONE STEP AT A TIME
CREATING HOPE...ONE STEP AT A TIME

When the world says, "Give up,

" HOPE whispers, "Try it ONE more time."

Cancer touches the lives of both women and men. Men who have lost their wives and sweethearts,  sons who have lost their moms. Women who have lost their sisters, and Moms who have lost their daughters.

For the past 9 years I have done something constructive rather than resigning myself to helplessness. In 46 events over the past nine years I have represented the sons who have seen their mothers courageously fight an insidious disease. I have represented brothers who want to stand beside their sisters in their battle. I have represented the relatives, friends, lovers, colleagues, neighbors and admirers of the women who are struggling with, often beating, and, regrettably, sometimes losing the fight with cancer.

In 2003 I took that first bold step of the 60km?s to help conquer women?s cancer?s in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer . To say that it was a life changing event would be an understatement. The road at times was bumpy, but there were so many pockets of goodness along the way. Those little pockets of goodness are the realization of a small gift of HOPE. Nine years ago I started walking in this event to Honor a Mother in law and when she passed away in 2005 it was in her memory. People were added to the list as the years went by and friendships were made. There are so many but several have to be highlighted. Shannon Duke?s life story  prevented me from walking away from these events in 2006, Thank you for rekindling the flame and inspiring me to continue walking in all the events.  Bev Forest and pushing that empty wheelchair will always be etched in my mind. Losing her life to cancer, isn't the way it was written out to be.  Spending  days in pain, Spending  days in bed, looking at  life slip through your fingers while you fight for one more day, one more moment, one more chance, one more miracle.

It hurts to watch them suffer, it hurts to watch them go and it hurts to miss them.  They are too young, to vibrant, to kind, to alive to die, but they did and what now?

In 2012 the 10th anniversary of the SDM Weekend to End Women?s Cancers  I?ll walk again, turn the pain into HOPE and the grief into acts of love. We?ll walk with the Memory of Bev Forest, Carolyn Sturgess(Gully), Bev Flagg, Pamela Anderson and Irene Fenton.  And we?ll also walk with Honor for Survivors like my friends, Shannon Duke (11yrs), Marion McNeil (9yrs), Barb Myers (21 yrs) my MOM (5yrs) and hundreds more that I have meet throughout the years.  I will also be walking for me a 3 year Cancer survivor.

The SDM Weekend To End Women?s Cancers is the sharing of stories, the laughter, and the tears, the empathy, and sympathy. There is also determination and courage beyond imagination. It is the aching legs, the blistered feet but also the euphoric high of finishing the walk supported by your peers, friends and family.

In 2012?my 100 plus Toronto Butterfly of Hope teammates will be celebrating not only the 10th Anniversary of the event but in September with my Niece and Sister beside me, I will celebrate my 50th event as I cross that finish line.

Phenomenal women and amazing men in 2012 have again committed to continue this journey and will not rest as they truly believe ?It is solved by walking?. They believe they can make a difference by raising awareness, raising funds, encouraging research and knowing that one day with perseverance we will find a cure.

Please join us in our Journey, walk for the ones you love, for your Mother, your Sister, your Daughter, your Friends.

Each step we take in their Honour, their Memory

Be a Part of My Journey,

My Weekend,

Join My Circle For Hope!

Shoppers Drug MartŪ  Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre or one-day 32-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto. It will be a challenge and I am ready to take on this endeavour to find a cure to breast and gynecologic cancers!

My commitment is based on love and my realization that we each need to do our part in this fight. I can walk. I can raise funds to benefit The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret, a leader in the fight against all women's cancers. I can and choose to be a part of this movement to save lives.

I ask you to join my Circle For Hope. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story with your circle of influence.

This is my journey.
This is my 50th Weekend

My Circle For Hope.

I am a Butterfly of HOPE

AND I AM A 10!  WILL YOU BE A 'TEN' IN 2014
