I am so looking forward to returning to Montreal for the second time.  I am hoping that great weather has been ordered so we won't be finishing the walk in a hurricane this year!  What an inspiration the Montreal walkers were as they finished in cold temperatures, pouring rain and strong winds with smiles on their faces.  I was proud to have walked with them.

In 2012 I will be doing my ninth walk in Toronto, my third in Calgary and my second in Montreal. It will be my twentieth walk since I started.  As you know, the walks are no longer being held in Ottawa or Vancouver.  Chad and I are sad not to be going there this year but excited that many of our teammates from those cities, as well as some from Calgary and Montreal, will be coming to walk with us on our Toronto team.  Our team is already 92 members strong and growing every day.  We indeed will continue to be one of the leading fundraising teams in both the country and in each city that hosts walks.  Last year Butterfly of Hope was second nationally, in spite of the fact that we are the only non-corporate team in the top fifteen.  We are so proud of that.

In addition to the three walks I will once again be crewing at the Ride to Conquer Cancer and the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer.  I have also signed up for Disco Days and Boogie Nights, Dance to Conquer Cancer in February in Toronto.  This is the first year for that initiative and promises to be amazing, as was the Road Hockey tournament in October.  I will have to raise eight thousand dollars in order to participate in the events for which I am registered, but my goal will be much higher since I raised over eleven thousand dollars this year.

Chad will be doing his fiftieth walk in Toronto this year, having participated in every event since the walk started up ten years ago.  What an amazing accomplishment, especially when you consider that he has done the last two years while fighting lung cancer.  His battle is ongoing and we are all so proud of his determination and the great example he sets for others. He has certainly set the bar very high!  What a great motivation for our teams and for walkers everywhere.  It was because of his encouragement and support that I was able to do all five walks last year. It is because of his leadership and the amazing effort made by the walkers on our teams that the following statement was made by the co-chairs of the Shopper's Drug Mart Team, our national title sponsor.

The Butterfly of Hope Team has become a National Movement, a role model of determination and fortitude thanks to your time, energy and dedication to the cause.

Chris Zarras and Robbie Krofchick

National Co-Chairs of the 2011, Shoppers Drug Mart, Weekend to End Women?s Cancers.

I look forward to having you on our fundraising team this year as we continue to support the efforts of our amazing researchers while they strive to end cancer in our lifetime.

One day we will see

Our world cancer free.

Thank you for your support.
