Every Step Brings Us Closer to a Cure
Every Step Brings Us Closer to a Cure

Hello friends and family. Here I am one year later amongst my loved ones, appreciating every living moment. You cannot see life the same way a cancer patient or survivor sees it. People take life for granted while days, months years rush us by till that threatening life disease catches up to you. Then all you hope for is please let me live a little longer, I want to see my child graduate, I want to see him get married I want to meet my grandkids. You start to wish that you had spent less time watching TV or working instead of sitting with your loved ones and getting to know all their thoughts about the present about the past and the future. Every little thing becomes magnified. You want to stop time but you can’t, you can actually see the days going by you.

I was diagnosed in April 2011 with breast cancer, after 6 intense months of treatments and surgery it seemed it was all gone. However a few months later after passing a scan I was told there were still signs of cancerous lymph nodes. I went back into surgery to remove 13 more under my right arm, wasn’t more than 30 days after yet another PET scan that they realized there were more. The doctors were baffled but this time the doctors said they would not operate again.  The doctors kept a close watch on me and I was continuously tested. In October 2012 doctors were happy to announce that all seemed clear and treatments had done the job. 3 months later at another routine PET scan doctors announced to me they saw very tiny spots on my liver. Once again talk of chemo or emergency surgery was being discussed. Doctors were holding meetings to decide what would be the best option. Decision was, let’s wait it out continue oral treatment and see what direction it goes. Miraculously at my last pet scan treatments had done their job once again. All is clear.

I try to live a normal life and not be consumed by the thought however the fear will remain forever. I cannot begin to explain the anxiety and nervousness I feel every time I am told I will be passing tests. The 2 weeks that follow are a nightmare unable to sleep unable to take the thought out of my head wondering what will they find next. Every time the phone rings or every time I see the blinking light on my phone from a phone message my heart races. Feeling nausea while sitting in the hospital waiting room to get the results these are all feelings that will never go away.

Nearly every day I hear of another woman who has lost her battle, leaving behind young children, loving husbands and other loved ones.  Young women, older women there is no age, no one is immune to this disease. Yes I do hear of happy endings and I am praying that mine will be one of them. But yet there are still too many that unfortunately their ending is not so happy. Look around you, reality is 1 out of every 9 women will develop breast cancer hereditary or not and 1 in 29 will die of it. That is way too much. We must put an end to this, let’s all make a small effort and help find a cure that will stop taking moms, daughters, sisters, granddaughter’s lives away. Maybe you are not affected by it today but your chances are 1 in 9 that it will.

I ask you to join my Circle For Hope. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story with your circle of influence. Please help me make this possible and help me make a little difference for the women of today and the women of the future.

You can all make a difference just a little will go a long way if we all unite. Please give.
