Please help make a difference!

10 years ago, I was 37 years old, with two little girls aged 7 & 4, a wonderful husband, a job in the music business and when I heard about the Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60km walk, I saw it as an opportunity to help the women around me, to set a good example for my daughters, to invest in a better future for all girls by raising a minimum of $2000 for breast cancer research and to physically challenge myself by walking for two days!

I walked for the first 5 years and have been part of the Sweep Team crew for the last 4 years.  This walk has been life-changing for me.  I have met so many amazing and inspiring people, many of whom have become good friends, and I always look forward to spending one weekend out of the year together with them doing a good deed.

Little did I know that 15 months ago, my world would change forever when I too was told “You have breast cancer”.  I sat there and all I could think of was “How ironic is this?” After raising over $50,000 for cancer research, with my team “The Rockers for Knockers”, it had got me.  It never occurred to me that I could get breast cancer.  I was doing everything that I could to help others because that’s what I do.  It was, and is, important to me to do anything that I can to erase this and any other cancers because I can’t stand the thought of women and their families suffering.  Cancer really does suck and I would love nothing more than to help find a cure, or better yet a prevention for it so that no one has to go through what I, and so many countless others, have had to go through.

Last year was the first time that I was given a pink lanyard (reserved only for survivors) at the WEWC walk and then had to walk into the closing ceremonies with the other survivors and it hit me hard that this was my new reality.  I have now changed teams and I can never go back.  So I choose to move forward and try to help create a new world where cancer doesn’t exist, or at least, isn’t the life-threatening disease that it is now.  This is where I need your help.

I have always walked in honor of my many aunts and girlfriends who have had to fight a variety of cancers.  Now I am part of their team, as is my mom The medication that I am on has messed up my knee joints so that walking is very difficult for me so my daughter Kira and her 5 best friends will be walking again this year in my place.

Please help them raise the money that they need to be able to walk on my behalf and others who cannot.  To make a donation on Kira’s page, please click here: http://www.endcancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Montreal2014?px=3791920&pg=personal&fr_id=1480.  If you wish to honor a loved one with your donation, please send us their name and we will include it on our list with the names of our loved ones.
