Finding a Cure, One Step at a Time.
This marks my sixth year in participating in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
I started this journey 6 years ago to help raise funds for breast cancer research, while supporting my Mother Margaret in her battle to conquer breast cancer. After a masectomy, chemo and radiation, it was a battle she won for almost 10 years. She became a survivor. Unfortunately it would be a 2-1/2 year battle with lung cancer that would take her life. She died last April.
Although I now support lung cancer research, I have decided to also continue on this original journey with WEBC in remembrance of my mother. At this time, I would like to take a moment to say that Princess Margaret Hospital, as part of the Health Network, is ALSO involved in research testing for early signs of lung cancer. If you want more information, please check their site under ‘lung screening’.
The Weekend to End Breast Cancer, is a two-day, 60 kilometre walk through the neighborhoods of Toronto, taking place September 5 - 7, 2008.
Proceeds benefit Princess Margaret Hospital, funding important breast cancer research, education, services and care. I am committed to raising $2,000.00 however, my personal goal is $3,500.00.
In a united front, and with pride, I will walk alongside my greatest inspiration, my daughter Danielle, her boyfriend, as well my girlfriend. We will walk in honor of my mother, Margaret whose courage and strength reminds me daily, of what is truly important in this life. Although she is gone, both her spirit and shining light will continue to live on.
I will walk for all men and women that have been, or will be, touched in some way by this dreadful disease. I am walking with a hope to help raise both awareness and enough funds to aid in eliminating breast cancer in our future, or at the very least our children’s future.
I am walking ... because I CANNOT walk away. I am walking ... because I CAN.
Please join me on this incredible journey, and know that TOGETHER, we can make a difference.
