As of Aug. 31, 2009, the generous patrons of CAAM United Hardware donated a total of $255.58 to the WEBC.
Thank you everyone in the Kensington Market community and everyone else for supporting this important cause. It means a lot to my family and to those touched by cancer everywhere.
Since I have already made my goal, the money was submitted to my teammate, Ivana Simovic, on my behalf under the name The Community of Kensington Market.
Limbering up for the walk now! Less than 2 weeks to go!

Knowing I've some cheques in the mail and a wad of cash collected from the good people in the community of Kensington Market, I am happy to announce that I've reached my $1500 goal for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer!
Hooray!
The fund-raising won't stop, of course--every penny counts, and I would like to thank everyone who has been so generous towards my campaign.
To those of you who would still like to donate, there's plenty of time! But since I've made my goal, I urge you to go to my team's web page and sponsor one of my colleagues who has yet to meet their goal. If you still want it to be "for me" you can add a note saying, "On behalf of..."
Donate to my team members here!

Meanwhile, a friend sent me this great link for this awesome video for the Princess Margaret Hospital. I like that the song is the opening to "Bittersweet Memory."

Thanks once again to everyone for all their wonderful support and donations. Updates will continue right up to the day of the walk!
Wish my feet luck!

Thanks to a generous donation of BBQ spatulas from our neighbors in Kensington Market, CAAM United Hardware is now offering these handy burger flippers for $2.00. All proceeds will go to my WEBC campaign!
By the way, the PS Kensington game netted a tidy $37 in donations! Way to go!
More events to come this summer! Thanks again to Jenny, who organizes all the great work!

I'm $30 away from completing my $1250 fund-raising goal! I'd love to hit $2000 to match the 60km event requirement, but I'm ecstatic I've made it so far in just over a month!
On the fundraising front: lil' sis Jenny is pumping up the donation campaign this weekend during the monthly car-free Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market. CAAM United Hardware will be hosting a fun little fair game, the proceeds to which will go to my efforts.
If you've never been to car-free Sunday in K-Market, make sure you do! Lots of music, poetry, plays, performances, and food food food!

So the Cans for Cancer campaign is underway, a project spearheaded by my little sister, Jenny.
The story goes like this: My cousin Ka Kan's company was getting rid of their garbage cans--perfectly good black plastic wastepaper baskets, such as you'd get from any office supply catalogue. She took these orphan cans in and brought them to my parents' hardware store to sell. Jenny decided they'd be better served for the WEBC's purposes and made up some signs. She also put a donation jar at the cash register, the contents of which will be donated on behalf of the Kensington Market community. She also made donation forms available to those who wanted to donate more.
So, yay, little sister! Thanks for all the hard work!
The Cans for Cancer campaign will run until they sell out. You can pick one up at CAAM United Hardware, 160 Augusta Ave., Toronto, Ontario. One hundred percent of the money will go straight to the Princess Margaret Hospital's Weekend to End Breast Cancer.

Hospital offers same-day breast cancer diagnosis
Canada's biggest cancer hospital is set to announce a clinic that can offer what no other hospital in this country can: same-day breast cancer diagnosis.
The rapid diagnostic breast clinic at Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital can provide a patient a diagnosis in a matter of hours instead of the more typical five-week wait. Patients also receive an immediate treatment plan based on their diagnosis, which explains their treatment options: surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy.

My younger sister Jenny is helping me out with my campaign by posting a donations jar at my parents' hardware store, CAAM United Hardware in Kensington Market. Change left in the jar will be donated as a lump sum on behalf of the Kensington Market community. Donation forms are also available to those who want to give more and get a tax receipt.
Thanks, kiddo!

Walked 7.14 km on Friday and came home headachy. And my feet felt all bent out of shape from my shoes, which are the most comfy ones I own.
So I stuffed my running shoes with poly-something-or-the-other insoles, then added arch support insoles on top to see if that would give me more spring to my step and aid my long-distance walking.
Turns out the pain in my feet is more from just, you know, plain old gravity.
Must...keep...training....

After a weekend of emailing everyone on my personal email list, I've received a whopping total of $615--just under half of goal!
Thanks to everyone who has so generously donated thus far. There's still plenty of time to donate, and hey, if you feel like you could give more, why not? The money goes straightaway to fund cancer research and treatment at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

I'm sending out my very special thanks to a dear friend of mine, Cristina Li, who has been so generous with her donation I am now confident that I can make my $1250 goal and surpass it!
Thanks, Cris. And just so you know, the money goes straight away to cancer research. Your money is getting used as we speak to help those in need.
