Support My Journey
The Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre or one-day 30 kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto.
My Journey started with my Aunt Vivian, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, she had both breasts removed, and with in a couple of years passed away from it. I was in my early teens and it was very hard for me to loose a favorite Aunt. Then when I was in my early 30’s my Aunt Katherine was also diagnosed with Breast Cancer, she was very brave until the end, she looked after her family with pride when she was very ill, it was very hard for me, as she too was a favorite Aunt, she was truly my hero.
My Mom was diagnosed with metastasize bone cancer spread from Breast Cancer that went un-diagnosed until it was too late, she suffered for over two years and last year lost the battle. It was very hard loosing your Mom even though she was 87, she is truly missed by me and my family.
Shortly after Mom passed away our family suffered another blow, my young cousin Corrie passed away at the young age of 33 with Breast Cancer.
So with their spirits with me, I decided I was going to do something. My two day walk of 60 km is my way of telling them I have not forgotten them nor will I. I may think that this will be the hardest thing I have to do, but it does not compare to the battle my Aunts, Mom and cousin went thru.
I hope my family does not have to hear those awful words, “Breast Cancer”. I have many friends and co-workers who have been touched by this illness, many of them have survived, with the help of people like me and you, donating time and money to help find a cure.
Proceeds benefit The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret, funding important cancer research, education, services and care that will not only benefit those suffering from breast cancer, but all women's cancers.
