The 2012 Weekend to End All Women's Cancers is going to be my 9th year walking with my amazing team of friends - Ann, Kathleen, Sandi and Sandra. I am often asked if I am walking again this year and my reply is always the same - 'Of course, because I can!!'
My personal experience with cancer began back in June 2004. Those three words from my doctor -"You have cancer" is when my nightmare began. My world as I knew it ended. My family and friends were devestated. I lost so much of my self both physically and emotionally. I lost the thoughts of 'growing old' and seeing my children grow up. What was I going to do?
Well, first I fought the toughest battle of my life - chemo, surgery and radiation. To this day, I continue to fight and part of that means helping raise money for women's cancer.
I am still here today and I truly believe this is because the advances made in breast cancer have been significant. I know that without research, I would not be here today.
Each and everyday that I have is so very precious to me. I do all that I can to raise money for research dollars at one of the best hospitals in the nation - Princess Margaret.
I walk so that my 10 year old daughter will never have to face what I faced. There are clinical trials and programs that I know will make a difference now and in the future for her. As long as I can, I will continue to walk and raise money.
Research MUST continue. Cutting edge research equipment needs to be purchased. New ideas that have the potential for advancing scientific knowledge of women's cancer cannot be forgotten.
Every little bit makes a BIG difference.
I have to do all that I can when I can and that is NOW.

The Weekend to End Women's Cancer is a two-day, 60-kilometer walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto, taking place September 8-9, 2012. Proceeds benefit the Princess Margaret Hospital -one of the top 5 cancer research centers in the world. Funds are directed to research, clinical enhancements and survivorship.
