Je marche pour Judy
Jeudi le 6 janvier 2011, j'ai été bouleversée d'apprendre que ma soeur Judy, 48 ans, était atteinte d'un cancer du sein. Ses traitements ont commencé en mars avec une opération, suivi par seize semaines de chimiothérapie, six semaines de radiothérapie, et un traitement biologique pendant huit mois. C'est un long chemin à parcourir, et même après le fin des traitements elle a encore besoin de notre soutien.
Malheureusement, elle n'est pas seule dans cette situation. Une femme sur neuf sera affectée par le cancer du sein. Ça veut dire 23,200 nouveaux cas au Canada cette année . Depuis plusieurs années déjà, et même avant d'avoir sa propre diagnostique, Judy contribuait à la lutte contre la maladie en amassant des fonds et en effectuant une marche de 60 km sur deux jours visant à recueillir des fonds pour le traitement du cancer du sein.
En septembre 2012, je serai à côté d'elle. Je ferai la marche avec Judy at sa fille Arran, ma fille Victoria, ma nièce Andrea, et tout une équipe de femmes courageuses qui nous soutiennent dans cette démarche. Nous allons marcher pour Judy, pour ma mère qui a elle aussi eu un cancer du sein il y a dix ans et l'a courageusement combattu, et pour toutes nos amies, familles et autres personnes qui peuvent être touchées par le cancer.

Walk for Judy
On January 6th 2011 my sister Judy received some life-changing news: she had breast cancer. At only 48 years old, she has already had surgery for the tumours and her lymph nodes, followed by 16 weeks of chemotherapy, 6 weeks of radiation and 8 more months of a biological treatment after that.
Did you know that one in nine women are affected by breast cancer? That's 23,300 new cases in Canada just this year. I can't sit by and watch this happen. I am participating in a walk for a cure in September 2012. The walk is 60km over two days and all of the funds raised will go towards research for finding a cure for breast cancer.
I'll be walking with Judy and her daughter, Arran, my daughter, Victoria, my beautiful niece Andrea, and a team of wonderful women who have decided to step up to the plate and help us fight this disease by funding Dr. Tak Mak and an amazing team of researchers at Princess Margarets. We will be walking for Judy, for my Mom who had her own battle with breast cancer ten years ago and won, for the people whom we love: our friends, family, and all of the others whose lives may be affected by cancer.
