Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women's Cancers? is a two-day, 60-kilometre walk to find a cure for breast and gynaecological cancer in our lifetime.  After what I learned last year, I believe it can be done.  Last year was my first year walking, and I was so inspired that I signed up again this year.  I am a proud member of Team RBC, the second largest team in the walk with a goal this year of having 400 walkers.

Funds raised have been used to help fund innovations in research that have led to breakthroughs such as the vaccine for HPV which is now able to prevent nearly 100% of cervical cancers. They have paid for a new rapid diagnostic centre for breast cancer in Toronto. Now, instead of waiting and worrying for up to six weeks for the results of a biopsy, patients can have a confirmed diagnosis the same day as the initial biopsy. The research team at Princess Margaret, led by Dr. Tak Mak, are on the verge of introducing a new drug that will deal with the more aggressive breast cancers that seem to attack younger women. The benefits extend beyond the Princess Margaret to help people all over the world. Proceeds from the event are invested in leading-edge women's cancers research, prevention and screening programs, as well as education, care and other critical breast and gynaecologic cancer initiatives.

The walk last year was one of the most difficult yet rewarding experiences of my life.  I have never seen such a well organized event. There were so many wonderful volunteers guiding us and cheering us along the way with loud music, high-fives, and words of support and encouragement. As we walked through different neighbourhoods the residents of Toronto were out to support us with banners, posters, fresh baked goods and beverages. It was so inspiring. Although it was exhausting I managed to escape with no blisters thanks to the tips and advice of previous walkers. Compared to chemo, radiation and surgery this walk was nothing.

My commitment is based on love and my realization that we each need to do our part in this fight. I can walk. I can raise funds to benefit The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret, a leader in the fight against all women's cancers. I can and choose to be a part of this movement to save lives.

I ask you to join my Circle For Hope. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story with your circle of influence.

This is my journey.
This is my Weekend Circle For Hope.
