Support My Journey & Make a Difference

This will be my eighth year participating in the Weekend to End Women's Cancers, formerly known as The Weekend to End Breast Cancer... my 12th walk.

To date I have walked 660 km in the fight against breast and gynaecological cancers and despite the aches, pains, blisters and swelling feet and ankles, I'm doing it again in 2013.

In July 2011, my mum's friend Linda found out she had an aggressive tumour on her pancreas and other areas of her abdomen. Her cancer was so her advanced and aggressive, that, on February 24th 2012, she succumbed to her cancer and passed away. In 2013, I will be walking in her memory!

I don't consider myself to be exceptional, amazing or an inspiration and I especially hate asking for donations. I'm not brave, fearless or selfless and I really don't like pain. Each year I wonder how I'm going to manage 60 km and survive the pain again. But it's not about me or how I feel.

This year friend, fellow walker, fundraiser and Trade Secrets team member, Randy Mellon, is fighting the battle of her life against breast cancer. This year, no matter where her cancer journey takes her, I will be walking alongside her and in her honour.

It's about the survivors with their pink lanyards and their missing breasts. It's about friends or loved ones battling this horrendous disease we know as cancer. It's about men and women with their bald heads who HOPE that they'll be back next year to walk again.

And it's about the future of children like 4-year old Aleisha Hunter, who at such a tender age, already knows first-hand the brutal effects of breast cancer and REAL pain.

It's these exceptional, amazing and inspirational people, both young and old, that not only motivated me to walk more than once but inspire me to continue walking. No matter how much I don't like pain or asking for donations, I WILL walk again. I will walk again because I CAN and I will walk again for those that can't.

Please support me in my journey to find a cure to help save women like Linda, Randy, and girls like Aleisha, by making a donation or by joining me in the 2013 Weekend to End Women's Cancers.

The Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto.
