Support My Journey

Once again I have the privilege of walking in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, this will be my 11th year. I am living proof that your research dollars save lives.

I am a survivor; I was diagnosed in the fall of 2002 with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. I then had to undergo 2 years of Chemotherapy as well as surgeries and radiation treatments.

Thanks to your research dollars, I am here to see my dreams come true. Seeing my sons attend university; Jamie at McMaster and Tyler at Queens.

Over the last 10 years, The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers walk has raised over 133 million dollars for research and equipment. Not just benefitting Women’s cancers, but the research that has been funded by this walk is now being used to successfully treat Lung, Pancreatic, Colon and Liver cancers!!!!!!

This September my team will walk our 11th walk. Together with my friend and fellow breast cancer survivor Maria Carone, my sister in law Sue, (who has walked 600km over the last 10 yrs. with me), my son Jamie, who will be walking for both himself and his brother Tyler (Tyler will be away at School), and with the memory of B.Jay, our dear team member who we lost to Pancreatic Cancer. On my team as well, is my wonderful husband Joe, who will be riding with Motosafety, helping the walkers cross roads safely, as well as enduring 100’s of women hugging him and having his picture taken (oh well it is for a good cause LOL). Maria’s husband, Ez, will be keeping us safe on the road by riding with the Bicycle safety group and will bike about 70 kms each day! My BFF’s, Julie Macdonald and Mary Asselstine, will be working with the medical team, helping walkers along the walk, and handling nasty blisters, which is very gracious of them because neither of them are that keen about feet!

I would like to thank my wonderful Husband and Soulmate Joe for all his Love and Support, I could not have done it without you!  Joe is no stranger to cancer, he was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in July 2012. This September we will join this walk together as two survivors determined to put an end to Cancer.

Thanks to the hard work of Dr. Ellen Warner, and her team at Sunnybrook Hospital, I am still here to see my dreams come true!

I will walk on Sept. 6th because I CAN, I will walk for those who CANNOT and I will walk for those who will be diagnosed this year with this devastating disease.

Research dollars are desperately needed for education, research and new treatment options. I ask for your monetary donation for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, so that Jamie and Tyler and others like them, will never have to grow up without their Mothers.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me in the previous years, and I thank you in advance for your continued support.

Gratefully yours

Catherine
