"When we long for life without diffifculties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure." - Peter Marshall

The Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto, taking place September 6-7, 2014. I first did the walk in 2004 as a tribute to my sister Nancy, a two-time breast cancer thriver, and again in 2006, 2008 and 2010 as a victory walk for my own thrivership.

I was just a scant six weeks post treatment at the walk in September 2006. But with support from my family, friends and colleagues, I walked every step of those 60 kilometres and crossed the finish line with a sense of joy and triumph. It was truly my victory journey.

In September 2007, my son Jacob made the 60 kilometre journey to honour me and his Aunt Nancy. He made the long trek again in 2008.

Each year that I haven't walked at the event since it came to Toronto in 2003, I have worked on the crew to support the 5,000 women and men who walk on behalf of me and all others who face breast and gynecological cancers.  I will again, crew at the Weekend this September.

Proceeds from the Weekend benefit the Princess Margaret Hospital, funding important women's cancers research, education, services and care.

I would sincerely appreciate your support. I would be grateful for any and all gifts for my campaign. Together, we can beat women's cancers so that Jacob's wife or daughters never have to face these diseases. Will you help us?
