Please Support My Journey

I have been participating in this event since it began in 2003, although my reasons have changed with each year. I have walked for my aunt, Marie Goodland, my cousin, Cathy Tessier, a long-time co-worker Wendy McCracken, and me.  This year I'm walking to begin a new decade of hope, support, encouragement, fight, strength, rememberance and honour for everyone that has been touched by cancer.  For those I know personally, those I have met along my journey over the past 11 years, and those I have yet to meet.  To begin a new decade of blisters, pain and perserverance!  This year I'm walking for everyone!

From 2003 through to 2007, I walked to support , fight, encourage, strengthen, and remember my Aunt Marie. In 2008 it was to honour her. After battling with this disease for almost 6 years, my aunt lost her fight with cancer on Feb 13, 2007. She was very proud of me, and everyone, for participating in the walk, and doing all we can to end breast cancer. Although I'm no longer able to speak with her about the event, she is with me in my heart for every step of the journey, and I honour her with every step.

In 2009 and 2010, I was walking to support my cousin, Cathy Tessier, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Although she lives in Newfoundland and isn't able to experience this journey with me, she will also be in my heart for every step of the journey.

In 2011, I walked to remember a long-time co-worker, Wendy McCracken, who lost her battle after a very courageous fight in March 2011.

In 2012, I walked for me.  To celebrate everything I did over the past 10 years, and to strengthen and support myself.  My personal experience with Melanoma in 2011/2012 was brief, but it definately brought all the emotions and feelings closer to home when facing Cancer.

Now, I walk for everyone.  Me, you, our family & friends, and everyone we have yet to meet along our paths.  I'm walking for hope, support, encouragement, fight, strength, rememberance and honour for everyone that has been touched by cancer.

Knowing that I will have all of these amazing people in my heart, and that I will have your support, will allow me to begin a new decade of this truly amazing journey.

The Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto. Proceeds benefit Princess Margaret Hospital, funding important research, education, services and care  for all women's cancers.
