Every Step Brings Us Closer to a Cure
Support My Journey in Fighting all Women's Cancers- Aidez-nous à vaincre les cancers féminins
The Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a one or two-day, 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto.
Writing this page brings me back seven years ago. The scariest year of my life.
In April 2007, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My friend Bibi had already registered to participate in the Walk to End Breast Cancer and asked me if she could walk in my name. I felt honoured, and her support during my journey was invaluable. In September 2007, I was in the middle of my chemo treatment. I was tired but I wanted to join Bibi in her project. I managed to walk beside her on both days. I attended the closing ceremony and found so much hope and support coming from the crowd of walkers, the medical teams, the crew, and all the people attending that I felt compelled to pick up a registration form and to become involved in fundraising for the research to cure women's cancers. The research also benefits other diseases. Since then, I have walked every year and raised over $ 13,000. In September 2014, I will participate again for the 7th time. And Bibi has joined my team again.
Since my first walk, I have had several friends affected by women's cancers: Kathy, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while I was still in treatment, had been in remission but cancer returned and she is going to start a new treatment this month. I will be walking for her this year.
This year, I will be walking my seventh walk.
I will walk for a number of very special people.
I will be walking in memory of my dad, who passed away with cancer in 2008.
I will be walking for my daughters and my mother in hope that they won't be affected with breast cancer or any other women's cancer.
I will be walking for my cousins Anne and Marie-Odile.
I will be walking for all my friends who have been close to me and have been supporting me all along my journey.
I thank all my previous donors and hope that they will be as generous this year.
This project is very dear to me. Women's cancers can be beaten thanks to your donations. Please help me support this cause.
