Understanding My Journey
Please support me in the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, a life-changing 1-Day (approximately 32km) walk through the streets of Toronto.
After years of "thinking" about getting involved, I took the steps necessary to get involved! My first year walking was in 2010 with my sister Shelley and my cousin Jessica. Before the 2013 walk, I was involved in a car accident and sustained back injuries that prevented me from walking. I have a very supportive boyfriend - Andy. He took my spot. He trained and he walked the 32 kms in my place, he walked for all the women in our lives that have been affected by cancer.
For the 2014 walk there will be 6 of us walking; 6 of us with reasons to walk, to raise awareness and to raise funds. Although my sister and my cousin will not be joining me, I have been blessed with great friends who will lace up their shoes and walk the distance with me.
My inspiration? All the strong women in my life! My Aunt Les was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2009. Her strength continues to motivate me. Unfortunately, she did not get the opportunity to see us walk that first year, but she was with us in spirit.
I am walking for Danelle - her positivity is contagious. I am walking for all women affected. I walk for all of our sisters, our cousins, our aunts, our mothers and our friends. I can make a difference, I can raise awareness. I walk because I can!
