WE CAN END Women's Cancers!
Thank you to all who have donated to me over the last three years! Your generosity helps thousands of women battling breast or gynecologic cancers. This year, as I walk in my 4th Weekend, I am challenging myself to raise even more! My commitment is based the realization that we each need to do our part. I can walk. I can raise funds to benefit The Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, a leader in the fight against all cancers. I choose to be a part of this movement to save lives. It will be a challenge, but with your continued support WE CAN END women's cancers!
I am so inspired by the great work the doctors and researchers are doing at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. I am most inspired by Dr. Mona Gauthier, a researcher at The Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute, who sadly lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer this year. Her laboratory focused on understanding basic mechanisms in the development of familial breast and ovarian cancers toward the ultimate goal of preventing these diseases. Mona's very personal cancer journey started with the diagnosis of her mother's breast cancer and ended following her courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Outside the laboratory and the clinic, Mona also passionately fought cancer as a dedicated patient advocate, role model and friend to many other cancer survivors and those at high risk for developing cancer.Thinking of her reminds me everyday why it is so important to keep fundraising. As she so courageously battled cancer, she continued to work to find a cure. She was a passionate spokesperson for The Weekend, as seen here in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4zXW_PJlh4 .
I am walking in memory of Mona this year, and for the thousands of women like her who fight for their lives to beat this disease- like my Mom who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer a few years ago. I thought of my moms courage as she went through her mastectomy, her fearlessness as she was treated with daily radiation for months, and her strength and intense belief: "I WILL get through this, I just HAVE to" she would say! It was hard for me to complain about about the rain again, my sore feet and legs, or think about giving up when I thought of her! I am so full of hope for my mom- she celebrated another year cancer free this year. So I am walking for my mom and I am walking for Mona. For the hope that with the funds raised with your generous donation, we can make a difference for all who are diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancers, and more women can win the battle.
The Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women's Cancers is a two-day, 60-kilometre or one-day 32-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto. The Weekend is one of inspiration, hope and passion and has ONE Goal: to end women's cancers in our lifetime. By donating, joining my team to walk beside me, or simply sharing my story with your circle of influence, you can help me and the thousands of Weekend Walkers do something incredible. WE CAN END women's cancers.
I thank you for your generous donation!
