Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women's Cancers, is a two-day, 60-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto. It will be a challenge and I am ready to take on this effort to end ALL women's cancers!
My commitment is based on love and my realization that we each need to do our part in this fight. I can walk. I can raise funds to benefit The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret, a leader in the fight against all women's cancers. I can and choose to be a part of this movement to save lives.
I took part in last years walk (2012) walk for many reasons. I had a couple of friends who participated in the walk in 2011. They inspired me and I was so proud of them, I thought about it and I wanted to be a part of this great event.
Thats why I laced up my shoes and pulled out my rain coat and walked through trenchial down pours on Saturday and on Sunday I squeezed my blistered feet into my shoes and walked the rest of the 60 km with a smile on my face and a few tears in my eyes as I thought about the reasons why I was walking.
I have a personal connection. I have a aunt whos name was Helen, unfortunately passed away from Breast Cancer a few yrs ago and my sister Jennifer fought cancer (in several places). They were the stongest people you and I could/would ever know. Princess Margaret helped my sister Jen through her treatments and gave us "extra" time with her. Unfortunately we lost Jen on Nov 11,2011. She told me that she would be at the finish line (with some ice) on Sept 9,12 to greet me. She was my inspiration, without her being as strong as she was it would of been alot harder to watch her fight her fight. As hard as it was for her, she didn't complain, all her aches and pains, we never heard about them. She was "MY ROCK". Although Jennifer and Aunt Helen weren't at the "fisish line" in body, they were proudly looking over me. The feeling I had as I was approaching that line knowing that I was making a difference in the lives of our loved ones, was undiscribable. I want to be apart of that again.
That's why I need your help. We need to come together and help raise the monies to continue in helping people like Helen and Jennifer and give them the hope in finding a cure. Lets give others a chance to live their lives with their love ones.
I ask you to join my Circle For Hope. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story with your circle of influence.
This is my journey.
This is my Weekend Circle For Hope.
