Hi! i will cut right down to it, i lost my grandmother last year September 29, 2013 to lung cancer. She was prognosed 8 months before she was gone. When her doctor told us how long she had to live, my family and i couldnt believe it, we thought for sure he's wrong, so many questions ran through our minds, like why didnt they catch this earlier, why isnt there more medicine to make her better, why? why? why? and why? the realization never really sank in, we went on with our lives as normal as possible, but ofcourse as time went on watching my grandmother go from a strong, healthy, independent woman to being bed ridden and having to do everything for her, made it the most difficult time in our lives. My Grandmother, her name is Esperanza, spanish for HOPE...she was an amazing, exceptional woman. she kept our family whole and made us who we are today, she was kind, smart, loving, never scared, never bothered, and oh so patient. Coming from a family of 30 very close family members, she was the one we all went to for anything. she was the only one who gave us the support we needed, the advice we didnt want to hear from anyone else, the nurturing that only she can give. we will forever be grateful she was in our lives. i will forever remember her, dream of her, wish i could see her and touch her again, be so thankful she was able to meet my children. Everyone always says it gets easier with time, but i have found thats not true, with the time that has passed, my pain has gotten stronger, my want for her is deeper and my soul just hurts like i've never felt before. I try to understand for the sake of my family, but its a very difficult process. So here i am hoping to find and talk to other woman who have gone through this with a loved one. i look forward to this journey. HEAVEN COULDNT WAIT FOR HER!

The Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™ is a 2-day, 60-kilometre or 1-day 32-kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Toronto. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m ready to do something bold and powerful in an effort to end women’s cancers once and for all.

My commitment is based on love for my fellow sisters, mothers, grandmas, daughters, nieces, and friends everywhere. It’s based on the realization that we each need to do our part in this fight. I can walk. I can raise funds to benefit Princess Margaret Cancer Centre – a leader in the fight against all women's cancers. I can and choose to be a part of this movement to take down women’s cancers!

I ask you to take a stance with me and join this life-saving adventure for all women. Be a part of my very personal journey - by giving, by walking with me, or simply by sharing my story with your circle of influence. Don’t stand back and think about what you could have done – take that first step today! Take a chance with me – we have the opportunity to change thousands of lives, beginning with our own.

This isn’t just my journey – it’s yours, too.
Make it a Weekend you’ll never forget.
