My reasons for walking: my mom, my sister, my neice, and me.

Together we can help find a cure!
UPDATE! Thanks to wonderful friends, family, and donors I raised my $2000 for the walk turning my balance in on Day Zero of the weekend. I walked every single step of every last km of the 60 km total and crossed the finish line with great pride. I've already re-registered for next year! Thank you everyone!
-------------------------------------------------
1 in every 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, 1 in every 27 women will die from it. They are chilling statistics and just one of the reasons why I have joined with a bunch of amazing and incredible people to be a part of the 2007 Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
Another reason, my mother is a survivor of breast cancer and my grandmother lost her battle with the disease. My mother was first diagnosed when she was 47 years old in June of 1991. Almost 5 years later her mother, my grandmother, lost her battle with breast cancer when it returned more than 10 years after the initial diagnosis. Then in August of 2005 (14 years after her initial diagnosis) my mother discovered that her breast cancer had returned.
My mother had surgery in August 2005, on her birthday, and battled with rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. She has an amazing strength like all the other women and men that battle this disease and she is now back on the road to remission.
It is for my mother and in memory of my grandmother that I have decided to take this tremendous journey. It is also for the future of my sister Bonnie, my 7 year old neice Brooklyn, and myself that I will train like never before and dedicate myself to walking 60 km.
I will also take this journey for the future of my dad, my brother-in-law Greg, and my 12 year old nephew Matthew. After all, even though breast cancer is most prominent in women it is estimated that over 100 men will also be diagnosed with the disease and 45 will die from it.
And last but certainly not least I will fundraise and walk in memory and to honour those that have lost the fight, and for all the other people that have battled or are currently battling this disease so that one day families and friends won't have to experience the loss of a loved one to breast cancer.
In 2006 I watched over 1,300 incredible people start and complete their journey of walking 60 km in one weekend. I was part of the crew (stationed at Pit Stop 4 and Holding) and while watching and cheering on the walkers they inspired me to take the journey myself this year. So I've already started walking regularly to get myself prepared for some heavy duty training over the next year. Here I go!
