PRICELESS
Updated June 22nd, 2007
32 years old, 3 lumps found, 1 breast lost, 8 rounds of chemo, 70 daily needles, 20 radiation treatments, 100’s of tears…..60 km, 67 monetary donations, $10,000 raised, 13, 7, 4 and 1 - the ages of my 4 beautiful daughters that I am SO proud of, 1 busy husband and countless amounts of family and friends to lean on - all in 9 months. 9 months I don’t think I would trade for anything…
In one month I will walk 60 km for the sake of raising funds for breast cancer research, all of which will stay right here in Alberta. Since finishing treatments on April 18th I have been gaining strength back rapidly and excitedly looking forward to being a part of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk. I have been told it is an emotional experience that I will never forget. I don’t know how any experience can be more emotional that the one I have already been on,so I must exclaim...Bring it on, all it can hurt is my feet!!
We, as registered walkers, have been told that the theme this year is “Hero” and have been given a necklace to wear with the word HERO on it. Well, I will not be wearing that necklace anytime soon. To me, the heroes are everyone who helped me through my diagnosis, treatment and beyond. They are my doctors, my stronger than strong family, my cherished friends, the many, many wonderful people that I barely know that took on a little piece of the healing action - they simply gave me a book, a small piece of good advice, a great survivor story, or helped in some way to organize something that helped out in a big way, they offered transportation and accommodations. The heroes are the ones who took the responsibility of being a mom off my shoulders long enough for me to regain my strength and never expected anything in return, they helped Bailee, Quinn, Joelly and Mykah, Dallas and I cope through a devastating blow to a family, that a young family should NEVER have to deal with, they also kept my family of 6 fed for 5 months, and donated money in hopes that my daughters will never have to hear the words breast cancer ever again.
Thank you to all the heroes out there for doing this for us…this walk is for you and it truly is...PRICELESS.
