As you may or may not know, over the past six months, I've been battling complex hyperplasia with atypical pre-cancerous growth which is the high risk stage that can turn into invasive endometrial cancer at any time. It's quite common amongst menopausal/postmenopausal women and as a result, the recommended course of action is having a hysterectomy to remove the chances of cancer spread. It's very rare to occur in women under 40 so the first course of action is to try and stop the uninhibited estrogen growth before having to remove the uterus.

It's definitely been an emotional, humbling and life changing journey for me to come to terms with the diagnosis, accepting reality, overcoming my fears and really not just fight to survive but to embrace and make the best of every healthy moment that I still have. In my case, Obesity & Diabetes are the two leading risk factors to create the conditions that allow for uninhibited estrogen growth and I've managed to shed the weight and get rid of diabetes which are first steps in the right direction. More importantly, this diagnosis could not have come at a better time with all the resources I need - I'm surrounded by my friendships & support network, a supportive team of coworkers, and a talented group of professionals

The Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women’s Cancers™ is a 2-day, 60-kilometre (yes that's over 37 miles!!) walk on September 7-8. Considering the longest I've ever walked in my life is 43km in 4 days to Machu Picchu, this is going to be a challenging first time for me. Knowing that I'm able to do something to help fund the research and support women diagnosed with cancer is an opportunity I can't pass up. So I'm going to tap into your good will to help me reach the minimum goal of $2000 to participate in this walk.

I've never actually raised $2000 before but think that supporting one of the best cancer research centres in the world is a personal challenge I'd like to be a part of. Also, since I consider myself a tourist in downtown Toronto, I really look forward to the walk through the diverse neighbourhoods in the Toronto East & West end and making new friends with Team TELUS and the thousands of people participating. Don't worry, I don't forsee that this being a frequent endeavour of mine to walk 60km in a weekend - but it'll be a memorable once in a lifetime experience.

It has been crucial for me to keep positive and find that this quote summarizes what I've recently realized, "It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.” - I sincerely want to use every resource I've got to help give hope and support to those who need to cope with and reverse cancer.

If you can consider giving, or going on a training walk, or participating with me, or simply by sharing my story with your friends, I would really appreciate that.
